
Ceramics


This class is only available for schools with a working kiln. Recommended for middle school and high school students. This class requires a room with storage space for clay materials and projects as well as a sink for clean-up.

The course follows a robust syllabus with specific objectives.
This introductory clay class is designed to familiarize students with the concepts and techniques of the ceramic medium with an emphasis on individual artistic visual expression and playful experimentation. Students will make functional vessels and ceramic sculptures through hands-on experimentation.
Experiences in critical analysis, concept design, and hand-building methods such as pinch, coil, and slab construction, painting, glazing, decorating and a basic knowledge of kilns and the firing process are emphasized.
